Live at Berklee Performance Center

Our trio represents the prestigious lineage of today’s great jazz families with saxophonist Ravi Coltrane and bassist Matt Garrison and explores open improvisation, as well as their own compositions. According to the Los Angeles Times, “Jack DeJohnette generally is regarded as one of the finest living jazz drummers, a limber musical thinker and technical dynamo, one who challenges tradition by pushing outward while digging in”. We will be playing at the Berklee Performance Center next Friday Dec 4th. Get your tickets here

Free Jazz Reunion at Cornell

The AACM became ‘A Power Stronger than Itself’, drawing from a bold mix of avant-garde jazz, classical, and world music to drive cultural innovation for black music. The band will be performing Oct 4th at the Cornell University, in celebration of our new recording Made In Chicago. More information in this link.

Four giants of international jazz music…

An innovative artistic project which involves the legends of international jazz, together for the first time performing unique repertoire.

An “All Star Band” lead by Antonio Faraò (amazing pianist, praised by Herbie Hancock and unanimously recognized on the international jazz scene),  and I will join, Eddie Gomez (legendary contrabassist, part of Bill Evans, Chick Corea, Mickael Brecker’ s trio and the Steps Ahead…) and Chris Potter ( one of the most admired saxophonist and composer of our times, as leader or usual partner with Dave Holland, Dave Douglas, Joe Lovano, John Scofield or Pat Metheny). in a rare performance in Sanremo, Italy.  The recording I did with Antonio including my associate Joe Lovano was stellar, so this will be a treat to perform with him again.  The quartet will perform repertoire of original pieces interchanged with some classics. Not to be missed! When? August 22nd at UnoJazz , San Remo (Italy). Learn more here.

Sketching with the Jack DeJohnette Trio

One of the central conflicts of jazz is the continual push and pull between the collective and the individual. Whether it is the dichotomy of the improviser and the group or the arranging and stylistic choices that emphasis melodic drive versus harmonic expansion, jazz has always had a bit of an identity challenge. That challenge was brought forcefully and artfully to the stage of the Hamilton Live on Saturday, June 13th, by the Jack DeJohnette Trio. Led by veteran fusion player and legendary jazz man Jack DeJohnette, the trio is something of an exceptional super group in jazz; while many of jazz’s legends have often played with each other, there is rarely such immense talent, purely gathered, in one place. Joining Mr. DeJohnette on electric bass was Matthew Garrison, son of Coltrane quartet bassist Jimmy, and Ravi, son of John, Coltrane providing the woodwinds. This is a dream team of modern jazz if there ever is one. Continue readin on
